Hawaiian Lumpizza
Make snack time uniquely fun with this Hawaiian Lumpizza recipe! Classic lumpia and Hawaiian pizza rolled into this one delicious morsel! Perfect as midday snacks for kids and adults alike!

What is Hawaiian Lumpizza
This unique snack is a fusion of Western and Asian cuisine: it has the flavors of Hawaiian pizza and the crunchy texture of lumpia. Hawaiian pizza is a sweet-savory pizza with ham, pineapple, and cheese toppings, while Lumpia is a spring roll dish, usually fried and commonly found in Filipino and Indonesian cuisines.
The delicious mashup is easy to prepare and requires only a few ingredients. First, prepare the filling by briefly sautéing the ham, onion, and bell pepper. Combine the sauce, ham mixture, and pineapple in a bowl. Roll the filling with mozzarella cheese in the wrapper, deep fry, and enjoy!
Ingredient notes

- Ham– the recipe calls for ham, but you can also use Canadian bacon or pepperoni for variety.
- Pineapple– use canned pineapple tidbits for convenience. You can use fresh pineapple if available.
- Vegetables– onions and bell peppers add color and crunch. You can also add some of your favorite veggie toppings, such as mushrooms and olives.
- Pizza sauce– if unavailable, you can substitute this with sweet-style tomato sauce.
- Mozzarella Cheese– delivers that stringy texture best for pizza! You can also use quick-melt cheese such as Eden or Magnolia.
- Lumpia wrapper– also known as spring roll wrapper.
Cooking tips

- Add strips of jalapeno or finger chili peppers (siling haba) if you want a spicy kick.
- Drain well and cool the filling completely before wrapping, as the excess moisture and escaping steam can cause tears on the wrapper.
- Do not overfill the lumpia wrappers to prevent them from bursting while frying.
- Cover the spring roll wrappers with a damp cloth or paper towel to keep them from drying out while assembling.
- For a crispy texture, use enough oil when frying to have a crunchy lumpizza. Maintain the temperature at the optimal 350 F to 375 F range and cook in batches to prevent the oil temperature from plummeting.
- Drain the fried Hawaiian lumpizza on a wire rack or fine-mesh sieve to remove excess oil. Do not drain on paper towels, as this will make them soggy.

Air fryer instructions
If you want to trim the fat and skip deep-frying, you can cook the spring rolls in the air fryer.
- Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray or brush with oil.
- Arrange the lumpia in the basket in a single layer without touching each other. Spray them with non-stick cooking spray or lightly brush them with oil.
- Air fry at 380 F for about 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Remove from basket and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Serving suggestions

- Serve Hawaiian lumpizza with a marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.
- Enjoy them freshly cooked as a midday or after-school snack for your kids!
Storage instructions
- Fried– store leftovers in an airtight container or Ziplock bag and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Although still tasty and safe to eat, expect the wrapper to get soggy and a bit greasy.
- Unfried– As lumpia lose crunchiness over time, it’s best to store them uncooked and fry them when ready to serve. Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes or until firm. When frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. Fry frozen until golden and crispy, adjusting cooking time as needed.
