Relyenong Saba

Rellenong Saba is made with saba bananas stuffed with ground pork and then fried until golden. Perfect as an appetizer, main dish, or afternoon snack. Kids and adults alike will love the sweet and savory flavors!

Ingredients
  

  • canola oil
  • 1 onion, medium, peeled, and chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 to 10 pieces saba bananas, ripe but firm

Coating mixture

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a pan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon canola oil. Add onions and garlic. and cook until softened.
  • Add ground pork. Cook until lightly browned.
  • Add soy sauce and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Peel the saba bananas and make an incision on one side.
  • Stuff with pork filling. Set aside.
  • In another pan over medium heat, add about 2-inches deep of canola oil. Heat oil to 350°F.
  • In a bowl, add flour and water. Stir to combine.
  • Top saba bananas with flour mixture.
  • Carefully add the bananas to the hot oil in a single layer with the stuffed side up. Cook until lightly browned, regularly spooning the hot oil over the bananas.
  • Remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack. Serve hot.
